"The Last Song" is a song by Brian Wilson written by Wilson and Joe Thomas. It was released on Wilson's album No Pier Pressure on April 7, 2015. It serves as the closing track for the standard edition of the album.
Background[]
During July 2014, Wilson announced a potential guest appearance by Lana Del Rey on his next album. On July 18, Rolling Stone confirmed the track's title to be "The Last Song".[1] Any of Del Rey's contribution to the track was cut for the release of the song, due to "scheduling issues". In a March 2015 interview with NME, Wilson would say, “Lana Del Rey, uh, she just cancelled out on us.”[2]
On March 19, 2022, a snippet of Del Rey's contribution to the song leaked. The next day, the source of the snippet revealed that the full version with Del Rey's vocals runs at a length of 4:10, with Del Rey performing solo for around 2 minutes.[S 1] On March 31, 2023, a second snippet of the song leaked.
Lyrics[]
Hold on tight and everything will be all right
I never really felt this way before
Don't let go
There's still time for us so let's take it slow
I wish that I could give you so much more
(La, la-la-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la-la
La, la-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la)
Far away
And maybe we'll be coming back someday
Together in the end, to sing with you again
(Ah, ah-da-da-da-da-da-da)
I never really felt this way before
Don't be sad
There was a time and place for what we had
If there was just another chance for me to sing to you
(La, la-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la
La, la-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la)
There's never enough time for the ones that you love
(La, la-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la)
There's never enough time for the ones that you love
(La, la-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la)
There's never enough time for the ones that you love
