"Marilyn Monroe" (also known as "Puppy Love" and not to be confused with "Marilyn") is an unreleased song by Lana Del Rey. It was recorded on October 29, 2010, and leaked on May 31, 2012. It is registered to the Harry Fox Agency and was produced by Justin Parker.[1]
Background[]
The song is an outtake from the Born to Die recording sessions.[2] It was originally referred to as "Puppy Love" by Del Rey on Facebook, and leaked under the same title. However, the track is officially registered as "Marilyn Monroe" to the International Standard Music Work Code wherein "Puppy Love" is given as an alternate title.[3] The song was reportedly part of a list of songs labeled as "b-sides" to Born to Die, which were heavily considered for release. Other songs include "TV in Black & White", "On Our Way", and "Velvet Crowbar".[S 1]
On June 3, 2013, in a radio interview for 102.1FM The Edge Live, Del Rey was asked about whether the track would ever be released, to which she replied, "I loved that song...you know what would be a really good idea is to release a record called The Leaked Sessions because I think I have over 120 songs that have been leaked online...that were meant to be for other people or for a later date, but...I don't know."[4]
