"Lover's Fate" is a song by the artist Alice BrightSky that was released as a single in 2006 and later included on her debut studio album, Box of Me in 2013. The song features backing vocals from Lana Del Rey.
Background[]
BrightSky and Del Rey met each other in 2006, both being a part of the WLSC 2006 event. BrightSky spoke about the song and why Del Rey was on the backing vocals, stating:
"It is her on the backing vocals. I wasn't happy with my own background vocals so I asked her to step in and she didn't disappoint. We've never done anything else together. Honestly, I haven't seen or spoken with her in a few years. I lost track of what she was up to until a mutual friend of ours let me know she had just performed Saturday Night Live in 2012."
Live performances[]
BrightSky and Del Rey performed the song together for the only known time at Galapagos Art Space in New York on November 16, 2006. The performance was a part of Jezebel's Coverfest.
Lyrics[]
The delicate and fragile
He was charming I was agile
And I don't want him back
But I do
So easily broken
This thing that we built
Baby, I wasn't meant
To go through this with you
And I don't understand
How we have done all we
Could do with this
More than we can
And I don't understand
Two different people
Can live inside of one man
There is a dark part of us
A place that collects all the dust
A door to a room we keep
Locked up tight, tight, tight
And there is a switch on the wall
Controls the lamp in the hall
I think that we turn on the
Light, light, light
And unlock the door
(And unlock the door)
To let ourselves in
Now and again
Glued to the floor
I am alone and the air
I'm breathing
Is getting thin
Delicate and fragile
He was charming I was agile
And I don't want him back
But I do
So easily broken
This thing that we built
Baby, I wasn't meant
To go through this with you
And how does this love translate?
How does this love translate?
How does this love translate
Into this lover's fate?
(Mm, mm, mm)
Lover's fate?
(Mm, mm, mm)
There is a dark part of us
A place that collects all the dust
A door to a room we keep
Locked up tight, tight, tight
And there is a switch on the wall
Controls the lamp in the hall
I think that we turn on the
Light, light, light
Unlock the door
(And unlock the door)
To let ourselves in
Now and again
Glued to the floor
I am alone and I am
Getting thin
Delicate and fragile
He was charming I was agile
And I don't want him back
But I do
How does this love translate?
How does this love translate?
How does this love translate
Into this lover's fate?
Lover's fate
Lover's fate
Lover's fate
Delicate and fragile
He was charming I was agile
And I don't want him back
But I do
