"Elvis" is an unreleased song by Lana Del Rey. It was recorded in 2008 and uploaded onto Del Rey's Myspace as she was using the stage name Sparkle Jump Rope Queen. The song was registered on ASCAP Ace Repertory during December 2017.[1]

Background Edit

In early 2018, a promotional poster for the film "The King" based on the life of Elvis Presley was released and revealed Del Rey would be making a musical appearance. On May 25, 2018, a Twitter fan account revealed that through contact with Oscilloscope Laboratories, the films distributor, Del Rey would lend the song for the film.[2] On June 30, 2018, Del Rey confirmed that the song would be featured as part of the film.[3] It seems that the original recording done in 2008 was used and not re-recorded for the film.

LyricsEdit

Platinum and vale acrylics
Skim the paper for the critics
Baby's breath and Elvis lyrics
On the cover bar

Late in motel lounges, singin'
Spotlight on the band is swingin'
Chateau Marmont, memories fadin'
Hope is very far

Elvis, where are you when I need you most?
White comp sequin jumpsuit ghost
Pick me up and make a toast
Champagne in the air

Tippin' back his head, relaxin'
"Thank you very much" and I'm laughin'
All my Chantilly lace is catchin'
Baby, on the chandelier

Sweepin' scents and blue hydrangea
Summer hail and summer stranger
Baby, he's in constant danger
Help is very far

You look like a Florida native
"Are you?" I said, at the rate of
Slow molasses from the state of Vermont
With a Southern drawl

Elvis, where are you when I need you most?
White comp sequin jumpsuit ghost
Pick me up and make a toast
Champagne in the air

Tippin' back his head, relaxin'
"Thank you very much" and I'm laughin'
All my Chantilly lace is catchin'
On the chandelier

He said he'd come to welcome, warn me
Just your diamond to adorn me
Come to be and see the one and only
For my final year, well, thank you

Elvis, where are you when I need you most?
White comp sequin jumpsuit ghost
Pick me up and make a toast
Champagne in the air

Tippin' back his head, relaxin'
"Thank you very much" and I'm laughin'
All my Chantilly lace is catchin'
On the chandelier

It's catchin' on that chandelier
It's catchin' on that chandelier

Where are you when I need you most?
