"Dayglo Reflection" (also known as "Love Will Light the Way") is a song by Bobby Womack featuring Lana Del Rey that appears on his 27th album The Bravest Man In The Universe. The song was written by Womack, Del Rey, Damon Albarn, Sam Cooke, Harold Payne and Richard Russell.

Background

Womack began working on his album with Dan Albarn after Albarn contacted him in 2009 during the recording sessions of the Gorillaz album Plastic Beach. Womack later began work on his first album since 2000, inviting Albarn back. Albarn later convinced Richard Russell to join in the production. In an interview, Del Rey revealed it was her who approached Womack to collaborate on a song.

The song samples Sam Cooke during an interview on The Ed Sullivan Show and "Moonlight on Vermont" by Captain Beefheart and his Magic Band. An unofficial edit of the song featuring Del Rey's vocals only surfaced August 16, 2012.

Live performances

Womack, Del Rey and Albarn performed the song live on the French TV show La Grand Journal along with "The Bravest Man in the Universe". The performance also included an interview with all three performers

Lyrics

"As the singer grows older, his conception goes a little deeper, because he lives life and he understands who he's trying to say a little more."

[Bobby Womack]:
The earth is but a dayglo reflection
A turn that will bring you only light
I'm forming to myself, but I'm not going
Waiting for the day to bring me light

[Lana Del Rey]:
If heaven thinks that everything is everything
The only thing I ever dreamed is you and me
'Cause I break down, I take you down
And I love it every step of the way

"As the singer grows older, his conception goes a little deeper, because he lives life and he understands who he's trying to say a little more. If the singer tries to find out what's happening in life, it gives him a better insight on telling the story of the song he's trying to sing."

[Lana Del Rey]:
Watching from a distant constellation
Eyes that can see the world in changing hues
Visions still unfolding, sweet imagining
Time reveals that love's the only truth

If heaven thinks that everything is everything
The only thing I ever dreamed is you and me
'Cause I break down, I take you down
And I love it every step of the way
